Terms of service

Effective 24 August 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms govern your use of Hold Your Place and any bid or payment you make through the service. By using the board, submitting a website or completing a payment, you agree to these Terms and the Board Rules.

2. Who we are

3. The service

Hold Your Place operates a public, paid leaderboard for websites and products. A successful bid places the submitted website at the rank produced by its paid total under the Board Rules. Rankings can change whenever another valid payment is applied, and each live round ends at the time shown on the board.

The service is promotional placement only. We do not promise a particular number of clicks, visitors, customers, sales, enquiries or any other commercial result.

4. Eligibility and authority

You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into this agreement. You confirm that you are authorised to use the payment method provided. You may bid for an eligible public destination without owning or controlling it, but doing so does not give you ownership of, editorial control over, or authority to speak for that destination or the person or organisation behind it.

5. Listings and website information

We normalise submitted URLs to prevent duplicate listings. We may display the domain, category, favicon and public metadata retrieved from the destination website. Anyone may raise the paid total for an existing eligible URL. Categories may be updated by later bidders unless an administrator has locked the category.

Listings may be submitted or funded by third parties. Appearance on Hold Your Place does not mean the listed person, creator, business or organisation submitted or approved the listing, endorses Hold Your Place, or is affiliated with us. Public businesses, products, projects and public creator or social profiles may be eligible; private individuals should not be submitted.

You must not submit a destination prohibited by the Board Rules. We may correct metadata, reject a destination, restrict a URL or domain, or remove a listing where reasonably necessary for safety, accuracy, legal compliance or operation of the board. A person or organisation controlling or representing a listed destination may request removal through our listing report and removal page. We may ask for reasonable verification and may block a removed destination from being re-added. A block may later be lifted where appropriate.

6. Bids and payments

The payment summary shows the website, your proposed total bid and the amount payable before you confirm. For the first bid in a round, you pay the full bid. When raising the same website in that round, you pay only the difference between its current total and your new total. Every accepted bid is paid and a new total must meet the minimum increase shown on the site.

Payments are processed by our payment provider. A card authorisation does not secure a rank until payment is successfully captured and applied. If the round closes first, the attempted bid may be cancelled and the card will not be charged. Currency conversion charges or bank fees are controlled by your provider and are not part of our charge.

7. Saved cards

You may choose in the payment form to save a card for later bids in the same browser. This is optional and does not create an account or authorise automatic charges. Our payment provider stores the card details; Hold Your Place does not receive or store the complete card number. A later bid still requires you to open checkout, review the amount and confirm payment.

8. Immediate performance and cancellation

By selecting the confirmation checkbox at checkout, you expressly request that Hold Your Place begin the paid ranking service immediately. If a statutory cancellation right applies and you cancel before the service has been fully performed, we may retain a proportionate amount for service already supplied where the law permits. Once the service has been fully performed following your request and acknowledgement, that cancellation right may end.

This section does not limit any right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

9. Refunds

A successful bid buys the ranking service described above, not a guaranteed position for the entire round and not a guaranteed result. Falling in rank, receiving fewer visits than hoped, changing your mind or deciding the placement was not worthwhile does not by itself entitle you to a refund.

Contact us if you were charged more than the confirmed amount, charged twice for the same bid, or did not receive the paid placement because of a verified service error. Where the service was not supplied as described, a payment was taken incorrectly or the law otherwise requires it, we will correct the error or provide an appropriate refund. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method.

A listing removed because it breached the Board Rules is not normally eligible for a refund, except where the law requires otherwise.

10. Rankings and board results

Ranking is determined only by the valid paid totals and tie rules described in the Board Rules. Displayed totals, clicks, rank changes and historical boards may update after processing delays or fraud checks. We may correct an obvious technical or payment error, including a bid recorded against the wrong round or amount.

11. Prohibited use and enforcement

You must not misuse the service, attempt to manipulate clicks or rankings, interfere with security, use stolen payment details, submit unlawful content or destinations, impersonate another person, target private individuals, harass someone through repeated unwanted listings, or use Hold Your Place to deceive or harm others. We may reject, suspend, remove or block activity that breaches these Terms or the Board Rules and may cooperate with payment providers or authorities where legally required.

12. Availability and changes

We take reasonable care to keep Hold Your Place available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may change round timing, minimum bids, categories, visible periods, moderation controls or other features. Changes will not alter a completed charge without a valid reason such as correction, refund or fraud handling.

13. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or your mandatory consumer rights. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost opportunities, or results you expected from a ranking.

If you use Hold Your Place for business purposes, our total liability arising from a particular paid bid will not exceed the amount you paid for that bid, except where liability cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Third-party services

Listings lead to third-party websites that we do not control. Payment and infrastructure providers operate under their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for the availability, content or conduct of a listed destination.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the service, providers or law changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Changes apply from publication and do not retrospectively change a completed payment.

16. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
